The formation of
the Community Benefit District for Fisherman’s
Wharf was overwhelmingly approved by property owners
in the area. The FWCBD was ratified by the San Francisco
Board of Supervisors in April 2005. The funding raised
through the assessments is being used to enhance, beautify,
clean, market and to begin urban planning in Fisherman's
Wharf.
In May of 2006, the FWCBD received notification of acceptance
of their request for 501(c)(3) status from the IRS,
which allows the organization to apply for federal,
state and locally funded grants, as well as to seek
out sponsorships from companies with a philanthropic
division.
The FWCBD formed the port-side business based Community
Benefit District in
December of 2006. With the strength of both the land
and port-side CBD’s, the Wharf community is developing
marketing, security, urban planning, way finding signage
and emergency preparedness programs. The Community Benefit
District has also served as a catalyst for unification
of the Wharf’s constituents to support a positive
change to their neighborhood.
IThe purpose of the Fisherman’s
Wharf Community Benefit District is to preserve and
enhance its vast waterfront landscape and multi-cultural
heritage, while integrating modern efficiencies to enrich
the experience of visitors from both near and far through:
